Spectacular Contrasts
Steep limestone mountains in the north (Dachstein), lovely valleys and high valleys
with numerous lakes, waterfalls and brooklets in the south (Schladminger Tauern), in-between the green
and fertile valley of the river Enns, all in all an unlevelled diversity and unique beauty - this makes
up the character of the Dachstein-Tauern-Region.
The mountain city of Schladming is the lively centre of the region. It has been a significant mining
town in medieval times, today it is a centre of alpine sports and activities, famous since the Alpine
Ski Worldchampionship 1982 and the annually held Ski Worldcup Nightrace.
The-Dachstein-Tauern-Region indeed offers all that makes up the spirit and attraction of the Alps!
